James Blake - Lindisfarne/ Unluck

James Blake - Lindisfarne*/ Unluck

Oh yeah, double A side, the one problem I have with his record is that it’s a little bit too repetitive for me, sometimes. I mean I don’t mind all the challenges he set up for his listeners, it’s just when you go to the center, you’re greeted with all these small, pretty but repetitive vocals. For times, I think I don’t mind to be brainwashed by them since they are pretty sweet and em, pretty, but other times, I still have doubts. But generally this is still an challenging but enjoyable album. Lindisfarne on the album is an two parts affair, this single is a combined edit of the two. It’s mild, it’s warm, but maybe a little bit nothingness-like for me, pardon for my cheesiness. Unluck on the other hand is an instant like though, yeah catchy enough for me, lol. I think “dubstep” is a little bit debatable, let’s just say it’s minimalist electronica to a new height.

* I have to warn you about the video for Lindisfarne, if you’re ok for some unpleasant, even disgusting visuals, then proceed…

Lykke Li - I Follow Rivers

Lykke Li - I Follow Rivers

I’ve been enjoying “Get Some” quite a lot, and this follow up single get the same love from me if not more. I thought they were just some average indie songs, but I ended up loving them more than expected. I guess it’s because they are well crafted, nicely done and are real growers.

Manic Street Preachers - Some Kind of Nothingness

Manic Street Preachers feat. Ian McCulloch  - Some Kind of Nothingness

For me, the charm of Britpop is always there even there seems nothing really new or ground breaking in recent years. I’m always quite delighted whenever I hear one, unless it’s really awful, lol. And yes, I’m delighted here, plus it’s very catchy and prettily done. :D

Brandon Flowers - Only the Young

Brandon Flowers - Only the Young

I think I started to like it when those tiny bits of atmospheric sound came in and the whole thing became so bright, and the “hahaha”s are just adding the right touches - another should-not-not-notice highlights of the song. This is not a smashing killer tune, but a soft, heart-warning one, a compact, nice effort by Mr Flowers I think!

Lia Ices - Grown Unknown

Lia Ices - Grown Unknown

A little bit cool, a little bit cold, but it’s also lively and lovely, and it turns out to be very beautiful at the end, I think it’s very suitable for autumn season. I don’t really like it at first, but after a few more listens, I’ve grown to love it, and not just like. : ) Ah yes, she does resemble Tori Amos a little bit.

Morcheeba - Even Though

Morcheeba - Even Though

Sometimes my heart needs soothing, pampering and shielded from all hits, this is what I turn to. They are basically doing the same stuff here as what they’ve been doing, but the world needs chill-out music, so I think Morcheeba still grabs a firm piece of the music scene cake. Recommended when you want to be alone or just to calm down.

Lissie - When I’m alone

Lissie - When I’m alone

Slightly folk, little bit country, slightly rock, so light I feel I can fly. And there’s enough catchiness to hook us up. It’s raw, but not too much, it’s genuine, it’s sensational. Yes, I feel this is a great new direction alternative folk could be heading. She is surely a great new talent and the one this year music fans should be watching out for.

A Fine Frenzy - Happier

A Fine Frenzy - Happier

You know, for me, for lots of times, great music happens when indie artists go mainstream or when mainstream artist go a little bit adventurous, wonderful results could be produced, that is the case here. I’m digging it a lot, plus pure, soft, heart-felt music always hold a firm spot in my heart, lol.. (:

Scissor Sisters - Invisible Light

Scissor Sisters - Invisible Light

This is a preview song from their new album… Oh my goodness, THEY ARE BACKKK!!!!!! I’m such a big fan of “laura”, “comfortably numb”, “take your mama”, “filthy gorgeous”, “I don’t feel like dancin’”, “she’s my man”… lots!!!!! Now, this has instantly become my new big favourite from them. I’m so hooked, wonderful retro beat with killer hook, what more do we ask for? It’s like those good ole disco years are back and more fabulous than ever. Let’s be fabulous… even only for tonight? ;) They are classy, they take who they are and toss it right in your face in a really really wonderful way, that’s what I called ‘art’, period. ;))
